What does a photographer do on lockdown? Well? She walks 122 miles in 7 weeks and takes 100 portraits on her dog walks! (I still put on 10lb, not sure how that happened...) This project was not about making money or flogging my wares, it was about giving me a sense of purpose during the lockdown. My husband Mark, was still required to work full time (he’s one of them NHS heroes…) and I found myself alone with the dog and no job. Doorstep Portraits in the S6 area of Sheffield was an idea based on other amazing photographers I had seen from around the country. It wasn't till I was encouraged by my Uncle Tony and friends in this industry to crack on and give it a go! So armed with my camera, I took my dog Alfie on walks around the Hillsborough area and photographed lots of lovely people on their very own doorsteps. No rules were broken and all donations/payments were given to The Sheffield Cat Shelter, over £500 was raised for the shelter! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have genuinely loved this project. everyone we met have met has been so lovely! and it has been one of the most rewarding projects I’ve completed. It has done wonders for my own mental health and I’ve had the opportunity to give back to our community. Special thanks to the lady at The Green Shop who let us in after she shut to buy beer, and Mel for the coffee and cake at Rhythm n’ Food! Molly’s Cafe & Deli… thanks for keeping us fed with your amazing cheese and cake platters! Thanks Hayley, Mark and Alfie xxx GALLERY
